sexual health education in british columbia

i provide comprehensive, evidence-based sexual health education for professionals, parents, and community groups across british columbia. my approach is somatic, sex-positive, gender-affirming, and kink-aware, and i aim to help every person build, grow, and enhance their sexual self-esteem.

educational topics include, but are not limited to:

  • gender + sexuality
  • boundaries + consent
  • sexual trauma + recovery
  • relationships + decision making
  • somatic sensuality + pleasure principles

sessions can be tailored to your audience. if you have a topic in mind, feel free to reach out and ask.

why comprehensive sexual health education matters

the world health organization considers age-appropriate, scientifically-accurate sexual health education a human right. this includes the right of all persons to:

  • access sexual and reproductive health care services
  • seek, receive, and share information related to sexuality
  • access sexuality education
  • respect for bodily integrity
  • choose their partner
  • decide whether or not to be sexually active
  • engage in consensual sexual relations and marriage
  • decide if, when, and how to have children
  • pursue a satisfying, safe, and pleasurable sexual life

the canadian guidelines for sexual health education uphold these principles, ensuring that sexual health programs are available to all canadians, regardless of age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, or other characteristics.

evidence & outcomes

countries like sweden and holland, where comprehensive sexual health education has been mandatory for generations, show lower rates of:

  • sexual abuse & exploitation
  • abortion
  • teenage pregnancy
  • sexually transmitted infections
  • suicide

in bc, the bc adolescent health survey (2019) collected data from over 38,000 youth aged 12–19 across 58 of 60 school districts. results show:

  • the average age of first intercourse has increased
  • condom use at last intercourse has grown
  • hormonal birth control use has increased
  • adolescent pregnancy rates have decreased

contrary to a common myth, the more youth learn about sexual health, the more they delay sexual activity and engage safely when ready.

my approach

as a graduate of the sexual health educator certificate (shec) through options for sexual health, i am trained to deliver fact-based, inclusive, and engaging education across a variety of settings. my goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where participants can explore sexuality, ask questions, and develop confidence and knowledge.

sexual health education not only teaches facts but also opens space for more positive attitudes toward sexual expression, self-esteem, and healthy decision-making.
